MY APPROACH
ETHICAL
I believe that coaching should be client focused, and client driven. I aim to listen and understand your goals and ambitions for your life, rather than impose my own vision or ideas onto you. I come to each session ready to focus on you and give you full attention, so you get the full value possible. Beyond that, I help get you the results and support you want without wasting precious time. Outside of our sessions I spend time preparing and often give you exercises you can do outside of our meetings . the best coaches thrive on feedback and improving their craft. I always want to provide you the best possible service, so at the end of every month I’ll send out a survey to get your honest feedback.
If you have concerns, if an aspect of the coaching isn’t working for you or you feel like you need a higher level of support, I want to help you in anyway I can. Additionally, I send out exit packets with tools and tips to make sure you are supported even after our coaching relationship has ended.
EVIDENCE BASED
My coaching is heavily based on motivational interviewing, a well researched method of creating change. Motivational interviewing operates on the belief that you, the client, are the expert on your life, and know the best answers to your problems. My job as a coach is to elicit that knowledge and inspire confidence to make changes and take actions that seem challenging or scary.
TRANSPARENT
Transparency breeds trust and progress, which is why It’s a core tenant of my coaching. I will be open and up front with you, honest about what I notice, where you can focus to see growth, and I’ll be honest if the type of coaching and mentor you need is beyond the scope of my experience.
How is my coaching different?
Combining coaching, movement, and nature
Sometimes we need different environments to promote our best thinking. Trying to solve problems or change mindsets while sitting at a desk or at home isn’t always conducive to our best results
That’s why for clients in the Portland area, I offer options to do coaching in nature. In the Portland and surrounding area there are plenty of public parks and natural areas to visit and take advantage of the ways nature enhances growth towards our goals.
Benefits of Nature :
being in nature reduces stress, increases attention and focus, and improves mood , and I offer coaching options in nature to harness the benefits and get the most out of our coaching sessions together.
In fact there are whole books on this topic, and an emerging field of psychology called ecotherapy that combines nature and psychology to improve outcomes for clients.
Nature also helps us experience moments of awe that make us feel something bigger than ourselves in the world that we don’t understand. Our emotions change just from exposure to nature, and when combined with coaching it can be a powerful tool.
Benefits of movement:
Walking and movement actually improves creativity, and neural connections, In our current society, jobs are becoming increasingly sedentary. As a coach who practices a wholistic approach, I include sessions in nature as a way to take care of your physical health and improve overall mood while tackling your life’s biggest challenges.
There is value in presence
many coaches offer only virtual coaching, and I understand the convenience. But from studying psychology and the mind body connection, I know that having in person dialogue can create greater rapport between client and coach than seeing someone through a screen. Our world is chronically online and while I do offer video call options for convenience, I also offer sessions in person and in nature to reap the benefits of connection with people and with the world around us.
Use the GROW coaching model by John Whitmore:
the grow model is simple and effective and is a versatile framework to approach various personal challenges.
the grow model:
G oal- keep the larger goal at the forefront of coaching, and have a goal/ intention for each coaching session
R eality- take stock of where you are now and understand some of the habits and mindsets that contributed
O ptions- explore what the options are to reaching your goal, and the roadblocks you might encounter along the way
W ay forward - commit to actions you can take to get closer to the stated goal
